Interventional Pulmonology
At Solara Health, we provide specialized care for individuals with lung and airway (pulmonary) or chest (thoracic) diseases. Our team of interventional pulmonology specialists utilizes advanced diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to ensure the best possible outcomes for our patients.
Our Multispecialty Team Approach
Our interventional pulmonology team collaborates closely with a multidisciplinary team that includes thoracic surgeons, oncology specialists, pathologists, and other experts as needed. Together, we develop an individualized treatment plan tailored to your unique needs, concerns, and goals.
What is Interventional Pulmonology?
Interventional Pulmonology (IP) uses minimally invasive procedures and specialized tools to diagnose and treat airway and breathing issues. Our services cover a broad spectrum of airway, lung, and pleural diseases, providing both expert consultation and sophisticated diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
Our Services
Bronchoscopy: A diagnostic tool allowing examination of your air passages using a bronchoscope.
Endobronchial Ultrasound (EBUS): Assists in diagnosing lung nodules and enlarged lymph nodes in the chest without surgery.
Robotic Assisted Bronchoscopy: A sophisticated catheter robotically operated that is able to reach small nodules in the lung with high degree of accuracy.
We provide customized care for patients with cancer or non-cancer airway disorders, including:
- Relief of obstruction in the windpipe (trachea) and main bronchi.
- Management of tracheostomy-related complications.
- Treatment of tracheal scarring (narrowing of the windpipe).
- Evaluation and management of tracheobronchomalacia (TBM), causing chronic cough and shortness of breath unresponsive to standard treatments.
Our Treatments
We perform advanced endoscopic techniques traditionally requiring extensive surgery, including:
Rigid and Flexible Bronchoscopy: Uses a combination of metallic and fiberoptic cameras to examine the tracheobronchial tree.
Cryotherapy: Freezes tumors or removes foreign bodies using cold nitrous oxide gas.
Hot Therapies: Includes Argon plasma coagulation (APC) and laser treatments to burn tumors and control bleeding.
Airway Stenting: Insertion of a metallic and silicone prosthesis to open blocked or closed airways.
Pleural Disease Service
Pleural effusions occur when fluid accumulates between the lung and the pleura. Our treatments include:
Ultrasound-Guided Thoracentesis and Chest Tube Placement: Uses a small catheter to remove pleural fluid safely, guided by ultrasound.
Tunneled Pleural Catheter: Allows patients to drain fluid at home.
Pleuroscopy: Direct examination of the lung's outer layer using a small camera to determine the cause of fluid buildup, with biopsies performed under direct optical control.
Endobronchial Treatment of Asthma and COPD.
Endobronchial Lung Volume Reduction
A new bronchoscopic treatment option for select patients with severe emphysema, improving breathlessness.
